Someone stole the Girl Scout cookies before the first scheduled booth sale! Girl Scouts will need to use their observation skills and conduct scientific tests to request a search warrant and recover the stolen cookies. This kit contains all the supplies needed to complete the Junior Detective badge with the exception of a little bit of tap water. Plan on 1.5 hours to complete the badge during an online meeting.

Two options are available to present the evidence. If you are working on this badge via an online meeting, I will include a link of digital case files to share as the girls uncover the evidence in their workbooks. If you have in-person meetings, you can "plant" the printed evidence (additional $2) around the room or at stations.

Activities covered:
Observation Station (AKA Kim's Game) - test observation skills
Cybersecurity Lab - decode the encrypted note left at the crime scene (Morse code/substitution cipher)
Chromatography Lab - conduct chromatography test on the note and your own pens
Fingerprint Lab - Identify the suspect's fingerprints and record your own
Shoeprint Lab - Compare patterns and sizes of different shoeprints
DNA Lab - Learn about DNA and then identify the suspect
Finally, fill out the search warrant to find the cookies!

The fingerprint, footprint, and DNA evidence can be changed for additional rounds of play.

12 page workbook

Pipette (add water)
Pre-marked paper with pen marks for chromatography analysis and additional strips for personal pens.
5 transfer paper sheets for fingerprints
Magnifying glass
Holder to keep everything together

Evidence options:
Digital Evidence - Link for 2 cases and all the evidence for unlimited play either online or print with your own printer. Share the evidence online as the Girl Scouts work through the pages of their workbooks at home.
2 Cases - Each kit will have evidence for two cases with the answers in an envelope. A parent can time them on the observation sheet, hand them the fingerprint, footprint, and DNA evidence, and will have the answers to verify they completed the analysis correctly.
Full Printed Evidence - Includes all 24 pages of evidence for unlimited in-person rounds of play. You can "plant" the evidence around the room or at stations for your in-person meetings.
