If you are looking for an outdoor table that is strong, elegant, and incredibly easy to make – our trestle-base DIY picnic table is the project for you.
Especially when you consider it can be built entirely from simple 2×4’s and 2×6’s! Even better, it can be built with basic woodworking tools. The bench measures 6' in length and the benches 4' - but both can be adjusted easily to make them larger or smaller by simply adjusting the length of the top boards in the plans.
This unique table is an entirely new take on the common, boring old picnic table. One that is not only functional, but extremely economical to create. And even better, it can be built in a single afternoon with little difficulty.
It is incredibly strong and sturdy, and can take years of outdoor use unlike traditional flimsy picnic tables without the sturdy base. And with detached benches, it is easy to get in and out of!

These plans rocked. Clear & straight forward. We searched for a long time for what we wanted and We adjusted the size. We wanted at 10 foot table. We made 3 table bases instead of 2, and just scaled the lengths of the table top and middle support to 10 feet. It turned out awesome and beautiful. We did the same with the benches. (Except kept just 2 leg bases and moved them into the center by like 10 inches to offer more support. And added a support board along the length of the center) Painted in with Sherwin Williams Chesapeake stain. Couldn’t be happier
I'm not a carpenter by any stretch of the imagination, but liked how the plans included step by step directions and a shopping list. Our table & benches came out wonderful, and I have no doubt we'll be using these plans again in the future.
Simple, straightforward plans. Made a third column and extended ours to ten feet.
