This extra-large scale handwoven tapestry weaving has a unique story. A single sheep named Peanut provided a portion of the wool and inspired the name of this textile piece. While working on large works for a gallery exhibit in Sonoma, California this piece came to life in the most unexpected way. My vision was to create a minimal and modern wall hanging that would suspend from a large oblong octagon piece of walnut wood that I had custom-designed specifically for this piece. I organically created the upper woven white on white shape with different depths and textures, but I was struggling with how to finish the piece. After sifting through some old scrap yarn, I came across a long-forgotten blue fiber. I immediately knew that a deeper blue version of such yarn would make the perfect finishing touch. I contacted Mary, the small farm owner in Napa, California of whom it belonged and we collaborated to create my vision. She custom hand-dyed the fiber in a small-batch making it a one-of-a-kind element.
