►ABOUT THE STONE:
Coin pearls are freshwater pearls, grown in mussels living in rivers and lakes. Like all cultured pearls, coin pearls get their start in a pearl farm when a pearl technician inserts a nucleus into a mollusk. The difference between this process and that of traditional pearls is that here the nucleus is flat or coin shaped. This guides the mollusk into creating a flat pearl. The process can take up to a year or more before the pearl is ready.

►ABOUT THE MAKER:
Each pair of cufflinks is unique and one of a kind, and made by hand by printmaker, metalworking artist and Cyberoptix founder, Bethany Shorb. I work between my home base in Detroit, MI and a mobile RV studio Arizona, where I source all our stone, crystal, shell, fossil and horn specimens there and at the Tucson and Quartzsite AZ gem shows. All are intuitively sourced in person, from only the most reputable individual suppliers.

►What is Electroforming?

Electroforming is the intricate process of fusing metal onto another medium using a low voltage electrical charge. The scientific process was discovered by Professor Moritz von Jacobi in the Academy of Science, St Petersburg, Russia. Thomas Edison used electroforming in his work, as did Michael Faraday, a famous 19th century physicist and chemist.

Coated with a conductive medium, the cufflinks are suspended in an electrolytic solution comprised of acid and copper sulfate. The electrical charge breaks down a positively charged copper anode and deposits it onto the piece, which is suspended from the negatively charged cathode. A layer of copper very slowly forms over the piece. After many hours of moving copper ions onto the organic piece, it is removed from the bath and goes on to polish, patina, and sealing processes. The piece is then ready to become jewelry! It is hardy and durable, while the original organic material remains encased in the copper.

Microfiber neckties, bow ties and pocket squares [Easy care!]:
Hand wash in cool water and take care not to rub the design too hard. You can also machine wash on delicate in a mesh bag or knotted pillow case. Creases and folds? Iron on medium heat; you can iron directly on the design.

Silk neckties:
Spot clean or dry clean only, never machine wash or immerse in water. Creases and folds? Iron on medium to high heat.

Regular weight and linen-weave pashmina scarves:
Hand wash or machine wash on delicate in a mesh bag or knotted pillow case so it doesn't stretch and tangle. Hang or preferably dry flat, do NOT machine/tumble dry! Creases and folds? Iron with high heat.

Standard Tie: ~3 1/8”-4" wide x 58” long. (aka “regular”/wide/traditional). This is the flagship “safe” bet, good for gifting, Dads, office dudes, & anyone but the smallest framed.

Narrow Tie: ~2 3/8"-3" wide x 58” long. (aka modern cut/slim). This is the “Goldilocks” middle width that looks good on just about everyone, except the largest frames. Younger and more fashionable. What guys often buy for themselves!

Skinny Tie: ~1.5” wide x 58” long. We don’t sell as many of these, but they're very young and the most fashion forward. For small frames and great for women too! Limited colors in microfiber only.

Bow ties: One size, ~14"-20" neck size.

Scarves (Linen-weave & Traditional Pashmina): One size, 28” wide x 80” long with fringe.

We treat every package like a gift - it comes wrapped all together with brown paper and string (because it is a wonderful thing!) and a care card. We never include prices or an invoice, so your gift-recipient eyes will never see that stuff. If you require one, please just let us know!
