Highlights

What you'll get:
Two healthy Navaho Thornless Blackberry starter plant, 4 to 8 inches tall, rooted and ready to plant. Carefully packed and shipped to arrive in excellent condition.

Growing basics:
Sunlight: Full sun is essential. Navaho needs a warm, open, sunny position for the best growth and fruit production.
Soil: Deep, well-draining soil rich in organic matter. Test your soil pH before planting and aim for a range of 5.5 to 6.5. If your soil is too acidic, add lime to raise the pH. If it is too alkaline, add powdered sulfur to lower it. Prepare the bed by tilling thoroughly and incorporating plenty of organic matter or a cover crop to build a nutrient-rich growing environment.
Planting: Plant in late winter. Space plants 3 to 4 feet apart in rows 10 to 15 feet apart. Plant each cane around 4 inches deep, keep it upright, and prune back to around 6 inches high at planting to encourage strong new growth from the base.
Watering: Keep the soil consistently moist, especially during the fruiting season from mid-June through late July. Consistent moisture during this period directly affects berry size and sweetness.
Chilling requirement: Navaho requires 800 to 900 hours of winter chill between 32 and 45°F to produce vigorous growth and a full crop the following season. It is best suited to climates that reliably provide this level of winter cold.
Feeding: Apply a balanced fertiliser in early spring as new growth begins. Work organic matter or compost into the soil annually to maintain soil health and fertility.
Pruning: Blackberries fruit on second-year canes. After harvest, remove the canes that have fruited to the ground to make room for the strong new canes that will carry next year's crop.
Hardiness: Navaho performs best in USDA zones 6 to 9, where winter chill hours are sufficient to support strong annual growth and fruiting.

What makes Navaho special?
Navaho was developed at the University of Arkansas and has earned a devoted following among home growers and commercial producers alike, primarily for two standout qualities. The first is flavour. Navaho produces exceptionally sweet berries with one of the highest sugar contents of any blackberry variety, large, glossy, and richly flavoured, excellent for fresh eating, baking, and preserves.
The second is shelf life. Where most fresh blackberries last just a few days after picking, Navaho berries store for 3 to 4 weeks under proper conditions, a remarkable difference that makes a bumper harvest far easier to enjoy and share. Completely thornless and straightforward to manage, it is one of the most rewarding blackberry varieties a home gardener can grow.

All plants are grown and packed with care. If your plant arrives damaged, please get in touch and we'll make it right.
