Though DURALUMEN TUFF is much more rub resistant than many chrome paints in its raw form, it is NOT as strong as a properly cleared chrome paint! It WILL still rub off if really abraded, and is very susceptible to damage from solvents, including oil from human skin. If ultimate durability is of concern, please purchase regular DURALUMEN and use a proper clear coat.

Q. What is DURALUMEN?
A. DURALUMEN is a specialized coating for use in an airbrush or HVLP touch up gun that creates an extremely reflective chrome simulation finish on a variety of substrates.

Q. What shipping do you offer?
A. We offer two different shipping options. USPS parcel select ground is our standard shipping, and UPS ground is our expedited option. USPS ground can take a while, so be aware! If you need your order before a specific date, UPS ground is recommended. Our products are flammable and MUST be shipped ground.

Q. What makes DURALUMEN different from other chrome airbrush paints?
A. DURALUMEN uses nano-scale pigments that are smaller than any other pigments in any other commercially available chrome paint. This allows for increased reflectivity, less speckling at lower opacities, increased rub resistance, better compatibility with a variety of substrates,
and increased compatibility with clear coats.

Q. Do I need to do anything special to my piece before spraying DURALUMEN?
A. YES - Use only a solvent resistant gloss basecoat like 2k clear! DO NOT USE LACQUER OR ENAMEL BASES WITH REGULAR DURALUMEN! Surface prep is absolutely critical to achieving a high shine chrome finish. The surface you are spraying must be as close to "smooth as glass" as possible. You should be able to see your reflection in the piece before ever applying DURALUMEN. A high shine gloss black basecoat has proven to work well, but you can experiment with other colors of high gloss basecoat to achieve brighter/other color end results. We recommend using DURALUMEN TUFF for projects with lacquer basecoats.

Q. Is DURALUMEN toxic?
A. DURALUMEN is a solvent-based coating. This means that all standard safety precautions should be followed when spraying and storing it. It is highly flammable and must be kept and used in a spark and flame free environment. Eye, skin, and lung protection should be worn during use.
