Pure gold does not combine with oxygen easily, so it maintains its color and does not tarnish. Moreover, it remains bright for a long time, and it has a durable texture.

24K is the purest gold carat but it is too soft to processed. For processing and getting durable jewelry pieces, it is mixed with copper and sometimes silver. Each gold carat has different rate pure gold and these different rates causes different karat. Karat means the pure gold rate.

18 K – 750 gold fineness %75 pure gold
14 K – 585 gold fineness %58,5 pure gold
8 K – 333 gold fineness %33,3 pure gold

It is too hard to see tarnishes in 14K Solid Gold in time but unfortunately it is not same for 8K Gold ;
8K gold has %33,3 pure gold and it is mixed with reactive elements such as copper or silver. When these alloys react with oxygen, they begin to corrode and tarnish in time. Because of this avoid touching acids and alkalis, reduce daily wear and stay away from corrosive chemicals. Also, you may want to avoid showering with your gold items to increase their durability levels.
