The BURLIN Basket, respectfully named after my deceased father, is a garden harvesting basket handcrafted on our small farm located in Western North Carolina. The basket design allows you to easily gather and hose off your harvested fruits and vegetables prior to bringing them indoors.
The baskets are very versatile and therefore make a great gift. They can also be used as a decorative item in the home, a picnic basket, knitting materials, floral arrangements, fruit basket, foraging for mushrooms & herbs, flower planter, beach basket for shells, kitchen veggie storage, magazines, rock collecting, etc.
The basket handles are made from sticks gathered from underbrushed areas and downed trees on our farm. No two handles are the same. The sides and ends of the baskets are made out of hardwood insuring their durability over the years. Each basket is unique with rustic characteristics naturally fashioned into the wood. If the sticks gathered for handles are to large they are turned on a Lathe to form the size needed, creating a smooth straight handle. If the sticks are the correct size when gathered we use them, crooked or straight, creating a rough and primitive look.
Non-toxic food grade mineral oil has been applied to the wood to help prevent water absorption and maintain the integrity of the wood. The wire mesh is made from weather resistant galvanized steel.
BURLIN harvest baskets are available in small, medium and large sizes. This large basket measurements are 20Lx10Wx11½H. The basket has a 6” height from the top of the basket to the handle leaving plenty of room to easily place items in the baskets. Items shown inside the basket are not included with purchase.
Each BURLIN basket is truly one of a kind with a bygone era look to each one.
