This is a print of my painting of the Nine Levels of Mictlan, the Land of the Dead, also called Ximallan or Ximoayan, Place of Polishment, where spirits are purified and stripped of their individuality in order to return to Earth in the form of a different living thing.

Here, the souls of Oxomoco and Cipactonal, Our First Grandparents, the first humans, transit through the levels of Mictlan and Their souls become younger, more pure, through pain, suffering and sacrifice. They begin as elderly people and end as babies.

The levels are:

-Itzcuintlan, Place of Dogs, where They find a xoloitzcuintli or xolo dog to guide Them through the Land of the Dead.
-Tepectli Monamictlan, Where the Mountains Meet Like Lovers, where They are smashed in the crash of the mountains.
-Itztepetl, the Mountain of Obsidian, where They are cut by the blades and bitten by the knives.
-Itzehecayan, Place of Obsidian Winds, where They are frozen by the cold winds, the winds that cut like knives.
-Pancuetlacaloyan, Where Men are Turned like Flags, a place without gravity, where They float and are left at the mercy of the wind, which rags Them and tears Them apart.
-Temiminaloyan, Place of Arrows, where They are pierced by all the arrows lost in war.
-Thecuayolhuelhualoyan, Place of the Tecuani, the heart eating beast that devours Their hearts, Their eyes, Their personalities.
-Apanolhualoyan, Crossing of Rivers.

Print arrived with significant damages- a large crease in the center and some damages on 3 out of 4 corners. Was not packaged well to prevent damage in shipping. Only wrapped in plastic and cardboard, no foam or other material was used to keep the paper from creasing. Print quality overall was much lower quality than expected for the price charged.
