Highlights
Elevate your mantel or console with this exquisite pair of French antique garniture candle holders dating from the late 19th Century (Napoleon III period).
Crafted from solid Belgian Black marble and accented with panels of Rouge Griotte marble, these vases showcase the refined "Neo-Grec" aesthetic popular in Paris during the 1870s and 1880s. Each piece features intricate gold-incised floral engravings (incised "dorure") that beautifully contrast against the dark stone.
The vases are adorned with ornate gilt bronze (ormolu) or brass mounts, including scrolled decorative handles and classic acanthus leaf feet. The underside reveals authentic period construction with hand-cut screws and incised foundry/inventory numbers ("173"), typical of high-quality French workshop productions of the era.
Condition: Excellent antique condition with minor age-related wear to the gilding and very slight flea bites to the marble edges, which are expected and testify to their authenticity.
