Where is the wood sourced for the designs?

All the wood is sourced from FSC approved and certified suppliers. FSC helps take care of forests and the people and wildlife who call them home and is recognised by WWF as the “hallmark of responsible forest management”. FSC is the only wood certification scheme endorsed by the major environmental charities, including WWF, Greenpeace and The Woodland Trust.

How are items assembled and fixed together?

All the products are fitted together via a tab and slot system, and are held together by friction of each tab on the mating part. So no glue, nails or screws are required, and there is no risk from sharp objects or toxic glues. We could have fixed with non toxic glues but by doing things this way, it means that you are able to take your product easily to clean, as well as being able to quickly change the layout, if you or your pet needs a change.

How do I clean my product?

With all items, disassemble in reverse to the assembly sequence. Then simply use a diluted vinegar water solution of 1 part white vinegar to 1 part warm water, preferably in a spray type bottle. Spray on each panel and wipe clean. Reassemble as required.

Can I use silicone to seal the products?

Yes, you can but please ensure you only use aquarium safe silicone such as these examples below: Aqua Mate Everbuild Everflex Aqua Mate Aquarium Silicone Sealant - Transparent - 295 ml https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B0046QFTKU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_TjwlFb7TNX7EF Or King British Aquarium Sealant Geocel Aquaria Clear 78c https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00175F4ZS/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_mlwlFb3VDSQX3

Why do I need to use silicone with a sandbox and not other products?

It is fine to use a sandbox without silicone to seal the internal corners, however as the design of our products allows for slight gaps in the assembly slots, this means some sand can escape into the enclosure. Depending on how you feel about this, then the option is there to allow you to use with or without silicone to seal the product.

How can I clean my product if I’ve sealed it with silicone?

You can clean it in exactly the same way as described above but it can remain assembled. If you want to give a thorough clean then you will need to take apart by using a Stanley type knife or box cutter and run along each internal edge until you are able to get the wood panels apart. Carefully peal the silicone away or if proving stubborn look to use a razor blade scraper to carefully remove the remainder. Be careful not to dig into the wood which would create splinters and an uneven surface.

What sand do I use with my sandbox?

You should only use animal safe sand for hamsters, chinchilla dust is not suitable as this is as it's name suggests very dusty and can cause respiratory issues. Something like child safe play sand, which can be purchased from most DIY and hardware stores as well as supermarkets too. This is generally non-toxic and safe but always worth completely sanitising first. As this can come a little damp when first unpackaged, if placed in the oven in a suitable oven proof dish, at 100ºC for about 20 mins, this should help to remove the moisture. As mentioned this is also useful for sanitising the sand when cleaning out, or reusing for other hamsters too.

Modular
The design allows any combination of turrets, bridges & ramps to suit your requirements, setup and budget. Turrets can be used singly with a ramp and no interconnecting bridge, or can be built up to a full size four sided fort or larger if so wished. The design also allows the ramps and bridges to be positioned around each turret so an L, H, U or Z shaped type configuration can be achieved if desired. No other castle arrangement is as flexible to allow you to build up as you'd wish.

Enriching
Gives your bunnies lots of safe places to hide, eat and relax with minimal disturbance. Use on its own or in conjunction with other products. The ramps and bridge provide lots of places to climb and explore whilst not being too steep that they can't get up. The ramps are machined to provide recessed slots for little feet to grip easily and no small gaps where little toes might get stuck.

The wood we source is not harvested from areas where traditions or civil rights have been violated or where there are ongoing armed conflicts. All timber is from areas that have not been menaced, illegally cultivated or sourced from natural areas converted into plantations with genetically modified trees (GMOs).

Finish:
Comes unfinished so can be painted or varnished to suit your requirements.

Please ensure you use pet safe paints or varnish.

PLEASE NOTE! Be aware that painting and varnishing our products may make it difficult to slot the parts together. Please consider the method prior to carrying this out. Carry this out using one of the following methods:

1. Paint/varnish once assembled, but this may make disassembly difficult.

2. Test paint on an area first where a tab a slot are assembled. Once happy continue on the remainder of parts.

3. Paint but avoid the tabs and slots so that these areas remain free to slot together.

If in doubt at all, please email or send us a message and we'll do our best to help.

Please see our FAQs for more details.

Cleaning:
Should thorough cleaning be required carefully disassemble in reverse order. Clean with suitable disinfectants, for example with a pet safe vinegar and water solution. Simply reassemble as required.

This product is absolutely worth the 5-stars-rating. The bunny castle is much bigger than I expected and the quality of the used material is amazing. I really love the modularity, this gives the possibility to add more parts or create smaller castles :) my buns fell in love with it from the first moment. The shipping to Germany was no problem and the communication of the seller was fast and nice all the time. Greetings from a new fan of happy Henry’s homes from Germany. 5 stars 👍
