Under the Sea details:
This beautiful illustration is from a vintage children's book from the 1920's. Fish, sea horses and eels swim below the surface of a blustery sea capped with clouds and a ship.

Paper Info:
Oiseaux Vintage Bookplates are printed on thick (48 lb.) bright, high-quality paper with gorgeous, vivid inks for superior color and image reproduction. They come ready for the adhesive of your choice; we like to recommend acid-free glue sticks for our bookplates: they are inexpensive, easy-to-use, and safe with all papers. You can find acid-free glue sticks online and in most drug stores or supermarkets; some popular brands are Avery, OfficeWorks, Elmer's and Uhu; most cost about a dollar. Occasionally I get asked if I print on adhesive paper, but because the print quality the best adhesive papers pales in comparison to the paper I use, I stick with the very good stuff.
What is a bookplate?
A bookplate is a name label that goes inside of a book, notebook, or journal. The use of bookplates dates back to a time when books were rare and precious things; a bookplate was a way to leave your name inside of a treasure. Today, bookplates have enjoyed a comeback as a sweet way to celebrate a new baby. For children, bookplates inspire a love of reading and a pride in ownership. What's not to love?
Our designs come from my collection of vintage books, postcards, and ephemera from the 1920's, most of which belonged to my grandparents. I remember many of the books from when I was a child, and I am so happy to bring these gorgeous illustrations to life again! Creating each design is often a lot of work: since old books are usually well-loved, there can be quite a bit of repairing to do. Each vintage illustration is carefully scanned, cleaned, and brightened up... then sometimes completely redesigned to fit a bookplate format. The end product is what you see in my shop: beautiful vintage designs, waiting for your books!
