Warm balaclavas have become very popular and it's VERY understandable why. These feel amazing to wear when it's cold and windy outside. This picture guide shows you clearly how to make your own with pictures of every step. You can tighten the hood and tighten the mouthpiece/mask. Wear all of it, or one part only. This is a one size fits all for adults. There is no child size in the pattern.

NB! THIS FITS OVER SKI HELMETS! I got this question so often that I have now taken two pictures with a ski helmet under to show you. :-) Remember this only applies when using stretch fabric!

NB! I haven’t listed how much fabric you need because fabric widths vary from place to place. For example, the polar fleece I buy here in Norway is 1.45 m wide, so I only need 1 meter of fabric to make one balaclava. If your fabric is narrower (for example, 1.4 m wide or less), you’ll need to buy a bit more to make up for it.

Other fabrics are often even shorter in width, so the best way is to measure your pattern pieces and check how much fabric you’ll need based on the fabric you choose. Also, if you’re adjusting the pattern to fit over a helmet, remember that your pattern pieces will be larger, so you’ll need extra fabric for that as well.
