Nectar plant for all butterflies. Deer-resistant.
Plant seeds in the autumn after the first frost. Cover lightly with 1/8" of soil. Water once, then leave them to sprout in the spring.
Alternatively, you can cold stratify seeds by placing them on a damp paper towel, fold it over, place in a recloseable plastic bag, then keep them in the refrigerator for 3 to 4 weeks.
Start seeds inside 6 weeks before the last frost in spring or sow outside after the threat of frost has passed. Cover with 1/8" fine soil. Keep seeds moist during germination.
The plant will reach 48-72". Space plants 24-48" apart. Perennial in USDA Zones 4-9. Plant in full sun to partial shade in moist soil. The plant can be divided every two years.
