Ball Size : 2cm (~1 inch)
Space between two balls: 2 inches
1.5ft of extra string on each side for hanging purposes.

4ft (1.2m) --> 12 Balls & 3 Shamrocks
7ft (1.2m) --> 23 Balls & 5 Shamrocks
10ft (1.2m) --> 32 Balls & 8 Shamrocks

Please note the sizes are for the spaced (Space between two balls) out garlands, not when the balls are pushed together.
