Whether you want to make a baby-soft, lightweight bonnet for a preemie or newborn, a vintage style, cotton and lace, christening bonnet, a chunky warm bonnet for cold winter days or a thick, luxurious bonnet fit for a princess, this PDF pattern can do it all.

The simple base can be made from any yarn, in a variety of sizes from small newborn (preemie) to 2 years of age.

Since the item can be made using any yarn, you just need to select a hook that is appropriate for your yarn - one that produces nice neat stitches. I usually make these in double knit/light worsted weight yarn with a 3.50 mm hook or Aran/worsted weight yarn and a 4.50 mm hook.

Some of my testers were very brave and worked it in cotton thread with itty bitty tiny hooks ;) The results of the tests are here - http://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/as-you-like-it-baby-bonnet/people if you'd like to look at some of the combinations used.

Once the base is complete, instructions are provided to decorate it how you like. Maybe a delicate picot edging or a stunning fluted trim? By trimming in a contrasting colour, adding lace, swans-down, bows, beads or any other accessories you like, you can turn your bonnet into a truly individual item.

The pattern includes a 2-page gallery of hats that have been made and gives complete details of the yarns, hooks and edgings that were selected to produce the hats shown.
