Akaki's Picnic Basket Puzzles
Materials: PLA plastic, Wood infused PLA
Akaki's Picnic is a series of small but tricky packing puzzles. Pack the pieces into the basket 🧺.
Inserting the first few pieces is easy, but when you get to the last piece, you will find that the handle is inevitably in your way. You might need to take a good look at the pieces, and think outside the box...
I have listed my 10 favorite designs. Each includes a different movement or technique in order to solve it. The same basket can be used for all puzzles, so you can choose to order multiple puzzles with one shared basket.
🍰Cake Basket: The easiest puzzle, it takes 11 moves and two rotations to solve. Made with three symmetrical pieces, yet the moves are all but symmetric. A good introduction to the series and packing puzzles in general.
🍉Fruit Basket: Can be solved with mostly linear moves (no rotations needed). If you count the sizes of the pieces, you will see it fills the whole basket without any internal voids.
🍗Chicken Basket: Only three pieces, when put together, don't form nearly a complete cube. Yet, there is only one way to pack them in the basket. This puzzle has the most complicated single motion in the series.
🍳Egg Basket: My personal favorite in the series, with a good balance of different motions. The pieces go in the basket in a specific order, one at a time, and each piece requires a different motion to pack it in.
🍔Hamburger Basket: My other favorite, this puzzle has a confusing feature that fools even me. Every time I try and put this together for shipping, I get lost on the wrong path at a certain point.
◆ Salmiakki Basket: How do you pack the two identical candy pieces in? Might require gravity.
🚇Subway Basket: The subway piece travels in a surprising direction to allow the next piece in.
🥪Sandwich Basket: The U-shaped filling needs to get in between the large bread piece. Requires some coordinated motion to solve.
🍫Chocolate Basket: This was the first one in the series I designed. It took a few revisions, but it developed into one of the hardest puzzles in the series. You can perhaps see how the top piece interacting with the basket handle in this puzzle developed into the many different ideas used in the other puzzles in the series.
🍷Wine Basket: The hardest one of the ten original puzzles in the series. It takes 18 moves to complete this puzzle. Might require some dexterity. This was designed soon after Chocolate Basket. I hesitated publishing this design at first, because I thought solvers would find the solution too contrived and too complicated, but I have gotten very good feedback on it.
If you want more puzzles that use the same basket, check out this listing with Extra puzzles. Some of them are even more difficult than Wine Basket. https://www.etsy.com/listing/977183440/akakis-picnic-extra-puzzles
These puzzles are 3D printed in biodegradable PLA plastic. The basket is printed in wooden PLA. The colors might change slightly.

My order from Mon., Dec. 6th was dispatched pretty quickly. It reached me on Tues., Dec. 21, in Toronto, Ontario. I liked the Fruit puzzle. It was a tiny bit harder than I expected it might be. The only one I had tried before it was the Egg Basket, which I got from a different store. I like the quality of the printing, and the colours of the various puzzles. It's really neat how closely the pieces fit together and fit into the basket. -Communication with the seller was really good. Thank you, Mr. Kuumeri.
Well packaged and very nicely made. On and off, it took me a couple of days to solve. Very satisfying puzzle to fiddle with!
Oh boy, that one kept me going for a long while. The assembly outside the basket was easy, but putting every in the basket took me a long time. Loved this one since there alway seemed to be a piece that wouldn't fit, no matter which orientation I tried. Great printing job can't wait until the next order arrives.
What an awesome design. The print quality is excellent and the level of fun and challenge is even better than expected. Shipping was fast and communication with Akaki was great!
