Custom and personalized orders

I do not offer custom maps. The cost of producing a map is far more than most people are willing to pay.

How are your maps created?

I use a combination of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) software and vector graphics software to build my maps. I gather open-source data from sources like USGS and state and local governments, then use a variety of GIS tools and analysis to develop the custom look and colors. Labels are placed by hand.

How are your maps packaged for shipping?

Most prints are shipped rolled in a triangle shipping tube, except for some of the 13x19 prints. After you receive your print, lay it out on a flat surface with some books on top and it should be perfectly flat in a day or two. Rarely, maps shipped in the triangle mailing tubes arrive damaged from transit. If this happens to you, please send pictures of the damage and I'll get a replacement started. I try to use plastic-free shipping materials as much as possible.

Returns and Exchanges

I do not accept returns or exchanges, however if your map is damaged when it arrives, please send photos of the damage and I will send a replacement.

What happens if my print arrives damaged?

Sometimes a print is damaged in transit - if this happens to you, please do not worry! Contact me as soon as possible with photos of the damage, and I will have a replacement sent at no cost to you.

What if my order is lost during shipping?

I am not responsible for lost, stolen, or delayed mail but I will do anything I can to help. Once USPS has your package, it is in their hands, not mine - we sellers cannot do anything at that point! Packages are shipped with $100 insurance, and I am happy to help you if you need assistance filing a claim. Please be sure to check your shipping address before ordering. I am not responsible for shipping to the correct address. If the package is returned to me, the buyer is responsible for additional shipping costs and/or filing claims.

This is a map for anyone who's lucky enough to have hiked in the Bighorn Crags of Idaho. The map is colored so as to evoke the feeling of a moonlit night spent camping in the woods, which really makes it for anyone who's felt the beauty of those silver nights in the woods.

I create my maps using a combination of GIS (Geographic Information Systems) and vector graphics software. I pull data from public data sources such as the USGS, or local government GIS departments to design the base map. I hand-place all the labels, and I design any graphics used on the map. I like to explore a variety of cartographic techniques, so each map has a unique look and style.

Each map is designed with respect to the place - these are not formulaic designs. My color inspiration comes from my own travels and photographs, and I strive to communicate the unique feeling of the place in the map. When I return from an adventure I like to return to the map as a way to remember the trip; just like photos and journal entries, maps preserve memories.
