ABOUT THE DECK

As the Moon orbits around the Earth, it crosses the Sun’s path approximately twenty-seven times a year. These intersections, along the ecliptic in Vedic Astrology, are called the Nakshatras or Lunar Mansions.

Traditional teachings describe the Nakshatras as the twenty-seven wives of the god Soma (aka Chandra) and/or the daughters of the deity Daksha. The individual stories about the Nakshatras are missing. They are presented without their own narratives and are understood only through their associations, symbols, and astronomical coordinates. Unlike most astrological deities, they have little biographical material, scripture, myths, or legends elaborating on who they are and how they attained distinction.

I had a deep intuition that a relationship with the Nakshatras offered the potential for an experience of the numinous. This sacred matrix of celestial deities could provide insight into our complex relationship with nature, spiritual psychology, and ecological healing. In my research, I was fascinated by the fact that each Nakshatra had a companion animal. Carl Jung wrote that the self is often symbolized by an animal representing our instinctual nature. These animals could give me insight into the Nakshatras and help me reveal their voices.

As I studied the Nakshatras, I longed to know more about them, other than their status as daughter, wife, or deity’s subject. In a post-lineage womanist response to this absence, I created the Nakshatra Totem. This oracle deck is a weaving together of archetypal psychology, indigenous philosophy, and Vedic Astrology, to give voice to the voiceless and let the Nakshatras speak in the first person about who they are and what they have to offer to the modern seeker.

4. Use a card as a discussion or meditation prompt in a dyad or group.

5. Pick one card a day for 27 days and use it as a theme for meditation, journaling, or other creative expression.

6. Use a Vedic Astrology App or tool to track the Nakshatras in the Moon’s path and follow the Nakshatras as they change in the sky. Connect more deeply with them by meditating, journaling, or exploring another form of creative expression to the specific Nakshatra in the sky at that moment.

7. Find a Vedic Astrologer, use a Vedic Astrology tool, or contact Nya at www.artyogafusion.com to discover the Nakshatras in your personal chart and meditate, journal, and/or use any other form of creative expression to connect you with them. These are important archetypal materials in your personal life journey. You may want to put their cards on your altar, or in a prominent sacred place in your home.

OMG! These cards exceeded my expectations; initially I was hesitant about ordering, as I was not 100% about the card stock, however, turned out to be pleasantly surprised. Being a water a sign, I really connected with these cards as the Moon is the ruling planet, however, I guess coming from the Indian culture also helps, as I fully resonated with all the Goddess representations. These really are a great addition to any yoga/well being/moon oracle and tarot card decks - I highly recommend. Thank you, I will be ordering from you again.
