Simone Weil book-locket. Simone Weil was a French mystic, a communist-turned-Christian, who, once she experienced God, never looked back. One of many themes throughout her notebooks was the theme of a love for a being that is far away beyond reach (like God.). There are picture slots inside the cover pages where you can keep photos of your loved ones and friends.

I imagined, designed, and created this unique solid sterling silver, rainbow moonstone, and white topaz book locket that contains four Simone Weil’s quotes:

“Distance is the soul of the beautiful”

“To love purely is to consent to distance, it is to adore the distance between ourselves and that which we love.”

“Friendship is a miracle by which a person consents to view from a certain distance, without coming any nearer, the very being who is as necessary to him as food.”

“There are two forms of friendship: meeting and separation. They are indissoluble.”

The book is a keepsake, a conversation piece, a functional jewel. It is also a pendant, although it weighs full 4 ounces but I’ve been known to make heavier necklaces.



The book is 2 inches tall, 2.25 inches wide, and 0.5 inch deep.
The pendant hangs on a thick leather cord.


All my items I make by hand one at a time so that no two pieces are ever the same.
