The shift (chemise) is a basical costume building item for 18 century costume needs. It's also a good choice for the early regency walking costumes.
The chemise is worn as an inner layer of clothing next to the body. Made of white light weight linen it absorbs your skin moistures and protects the stays from the traces of sweat. Also it comforts your body if the stays are too rigid.
The sleeves are elbow length. The shift has anderarm and side seams gussets.
The shift is sewn according to historically accurate period undergarments recommendations, Garsault's L'Art de la lingere (1780). That is why it has:
- a gusseted underarm that enables your arm movement;
- elbow lenth sleeves;
- the drawstring that adjusts the neckline, so you can feet your deeply decollete;
- side gussets which gives enough space for your leg movement.
The size is adjustable.
