The Argyle Wire Trellis was designed as part of a larger “green wall” project. It was to add height to one focal point section, screen very specific views and become a backdrop for lighted art pieces and foliage. I wanted it to be very light weight and easily put up and down. Also, because I was concerned that a high solid plane would catch too much wind, porosity was a good thing. Its critical “privacy component” will be filled in by evergreen or flowering vines, which are known to put twisting stress on growing structures; the Argyle Trellis was designed to be very strong. What’s nice about this construction vocabulary is that trellis size and shape can vary widely, since its laminated wood frame is robust. The length of tensioned trellis wires is limited only by your imagination. This double-looped and twisted wire technique is a low-tech/low-cost alternative to stainless cables and turnbuckles. If well planned, these trellises look great and can be repaired or repatterned on a whim.
