The head of Medusa – the Gorgoneion – became a powerful apotropaic symbol, that is, one that scares away evil, fear and enemies.
Her image appeared everywhere:
on the shields of warriors (for example, on the shield of Athena – the aegis),
on the pediments of temples (especially in the temples of Zeus, Artemis, Apollo),
on coins and seals,
in jewelry and amulets, especially bronze pendants or medallions.

It was believed that the face of the Gorgon was so terrible that it frightened even demons and evil spirits, averted diseases, death and curses.
And this is no exaggeration, this image is thousands of years old.
In the form of a pendant or ring, it was supposed to ward off the "evil eye", protect against intrigue and remind the owner of his inner strength.
In ancient families, the Gorgoneion was often given to children or warriors before long journeys.
In the later Roman tradition, this symbol turned into a protective "medallion of power", which could protect even after death - therefore it was placed in graves with the owner.
It symbolizes the transformation of fear into protection.
