Seller's description

50 Wild Quinine seeds (Parthenium integrifolium) for months of crisp white button flowers on a tough native perennial that pollinators love.

Flat topped clusters of small, pure white flowers bloom from early summer into early fall above large, rough textured leaves, drawing bees, wasps, beetles and butterflies. The flowers dry well for arrangements. It resists most insects and diseases, deer usually leave it alone, and it handles heat and drought once its deep taproot is established. Also called American feverfew, it takes the name wild quinine from its historic use as a quinine substitute during World War I; pair it with blazing star, bee balm or purple coneflower for a late summer show.

Non-GMO.

GROWING INSTRUCTIONS
Sow outdoors in late fall, or as soon as the soil can be worked in spring after stratifying. For spring sowing, mix the seeds with moist sand and refrigerate for 60 days to break dormancy. Sow just below the surface, about ⅛ inch deep, lightly firm the soil and keep it consistently moist until germination, usually 14 to 28 days. Sow where you want plants to stay, as the deep taproot makes them resent transplanting. Thin to 12 to 18 inches apart in full sun and average, well drained soil. Seedlings put most of their early energy into roots, so expect the best flowering from the second year on.

• Life cycle: Hardy perennial, native
• USDA zones: 4 to 8
• Height: 24 to 48 inches
• Bloom time: Early summer to early fall
• Light: Full sun
• Soil: Average, well drained
• Water: Low to moderate once established
• Seed depth: ⅛ inch
• Spacing: 12 to 18 inches
• Germination: 14 to 28 days
• Cold stratification: 60 days
