Here's a step-by-step guide:

1) Take a flexible measuring tape. If you don't have one, you can also use a string or tape and then measure it with a ruler.

2) Stand upright and relaxed in front of a mirror.

3) Run the tape measure around your body at the place where you normally want to wear the belt. This is usually where the waistband of your pants sits.

4) Pull the tape measure tight enough to simulate a good fit of the belt, but not too tight that it becomes uncomfortable. You want to have room to breathe, after all.

5) Hold the tape measure parallel to the floor and read the circumference. Make sure the tape measure is not twisted and is straight around your body.

The measured value in centimeters or inches is your waist circumference.
