Highlights
19th century French Baccarat amphora shaped decanters with stoppers and engraved decor of garlands and gold highlights circa 1880.
Pair of ravishing mouth blown footed crystal amphoras with toppers. The bodies display diametrically opposed bouquets of roses, linked with graceful garlands of flowers, foliage and ribbons. The decor was engraved first and highlighted with gold.
The octagonal toppers are decorated with gold highlights running from their tops down the center of each facet. Under the base of the each topper are the engraved numbers 34 and 51 which, given that the base of one of the bottles is engraved with the number 34, the numbers were probably used to keep track of the matching toppers. Four lines of gold highlight the bases and various sections of the necks.
The set is in perfect condition, without a chip or gold missing. There is a small glass bubble in the base of one of the bottles by the foot stem.
One decanter stands 9 3/8” tall with its topper and the other is 9 1/4” tall by 2 3/4” in diameter. There is a 1/8” difference in height in the bodies because the bottles were mouth blown. One decanter is 7 1/8” tall, the other 7 1/4”.
