A sherpa blanket is a covering made from sherpa fabric, a material developed to look and feel like the wool the Sherpa people of Nepal use in making their clothing and other textile items. Originally used in jacket linings, sherpa fabric is composed mainly of cotton or a cotton synthetic blend. The material is plush, soft to the touch, and provides insulation.


A sherpa blanket envelopes you in a snug shroud of coziness. It provides a layer of comfort while you rest, whether in bed or snuggled up on the sofa in front of your favorite show.

  • Full-size sherpa blanket: Larger than a throw, a full-size blanket is excellent for naptime on the sofa.
  • Sherpa throw blanket: Throws are a style of blanket made to be decorative and functional. Most are just large enough to cover up a person—or a person's lap—to provide a layer of warmth while sitting on an armchair, loveseat, or couch.
  • Sherpa comforter: A comforter is a larger, thicker blanket designed to cover the top layer of a bed.

Taking good care of your sherpa blanket helps it last longer and retain its charm. Here’s some tips for keeping your blanket fresh and cozy:


  • Avoid spills: Keep liquids away from your sherpa blanket, especially drinks that can stain—such as wine, grape juice, and other dark-colored drinks. Try to avoid drinks with a high sugar content, as this will make the fabric sticky and dry into a crust.
  • Spot-clean mishaps right away: If you drop a bit of ketchup on your beloved blanket, don't fret. Run the spot under cold water.
