About this item

This original work was created by Japanese shodo calligraphy artist Hekika. After using sumi ink to write the message on washi paper, Hekika worked with professional craftsmen to draft it onto a scroll.

Toshiko Furuya (古谷敏子) (1929 – 2019) known professionally as Hekika, was a shodo calligraphy artist. She practiced the art for 30 years and had several shodo masters as her mentor. Hekika won many awards, and her scrolls and calligraphy were exhibited internationally. She is known for her dynamic and energetic style, often incorporating elements of nature, where she finds inspiration from.
