Clasps are hand formed using gold filled wire, hammered for style and tumbled for strength and shine. The 20ga size is perfect for delicate necklaces and anklets... the 18ga is a versatile mid-size, sturdy in small or medium, while still delicate. The 16ga is much more substantial even in the smaller 2.5cm size, the medium size measures 3.25cm so it's a bit more versatile for a variety of designs. All will measure from 2.5cm to a bit over 3cm, but because they are each made by hand, their size may vary slightly... Note; measurements are approximate and with clasp and figure 8 connected.

So with materials costs increasing, in lieu of increasing my prices substantially, I've switched to using 12kt gold filled exclusively in these petite clasps, which still has 5% gold content, but stronger than 14kt gold filled which makes it a more durable clasp.

**Gold filled wire is created with gold and yellow brass. The gold content in both 12 and 14kt gold filled wires I use comprises 1/20th or 5% of the total metal content of the wire and contains 100 times more gold than plated wire. It's strong, tarnish resistant, durable enough to last a lifetime with proper care and storage, at a much more affordable price than carat gold. 12kt gold is a bit harder that 14kt, yet still with the look of pure gold. (I've had and worn many gold filled jewelry pieces for 30-40 years, none have tarnished or shown any wear, nor have they required any special care other than keeping them carefully stored when not being worn, and not abusing them with perfume or hair spray when being worn.)
