Mobile-Tensaw River Delta, Alabama

This detailed map of the Mobile Tensaw River Delta was my third map. It took 8 months to complete. It is a print created from my hand drawn originals. I worked on it the whole time while living aboard an old house boat studio on Fly Creek in Alabama. Such a magic place! When I was trying to illustrate a gar fish I simply stepped outside and studied the four that hung out under the starboard bow. I had an opportunity to visit much of the places I illustrated. The map starts down at the Bay Bridge/Causeway and goes up to about Dixie Landing. Showing 4 or 5 counties. This portrays one of America's last great wilderness areas. Anyone that has experienced this delta area will appreciate this map. I tried very hard with google's aerial images to get the creeks, lake, rivers and oxbows as correct as I could.

The delta is the birth place and nursery to most of the aquatic species we know and love. It needs our protection. Ben Raines wrote something for me and you can read it on the top of the map in a scroll. He was recently interviewed on NPR and spoke about the importance of protecting this "Americas Amazon". Jimbo Meador a beloved Delta guide among many other things also contributed insight to my project.
