My first memory of sewing came when I was 5 and received my very first sewing machine for Christmas. Now granted it was a plastic Fisher-Price model that used yarn instead of thread, but to a 5 year old it was the equivalent of winning the lottery. When I was around 7 years old, my parents enrolled me in sewing classes which taught me the basics of sewing. I also learned a lot from my grandmother, who spent countless hours showing me all sorts of tricks and techniques to sewing. My family has been a constant source of encouragement with my sewing, long before I ever realized my potential. In high school my parents gave me my second sewing machine (a real one this time that actually sewed through fabric!). During my quest for individuality in high school, I enjoyed making my own clothes and learned a lot about clothing construction as I analyzed my favorite articles of clothing, re-creating them in different colors and prints. This opened up a new door for me, as it taught me how to create my own designs and depend less on store bought patterns. I love the challenge of sketching out a new idea and then playing around with fabric and measurements until I get the results I'm seeking.
