A 10 year-old quilter to a 22 year-old Entrepreneur
I started sewing at age 10 in my local 4-H program. My parents bought a classic Singer sewing machine and threw me into the 4-H quilting project. Learning the basics of sewing and how to apply them to quilting was not easy, especially for a 10 year old, but with the help of my mom and the quilting project leaders, I made a queen sized quilt my first year in the project. The following year I made another one, and then got involved in 4-H's sewing project where I learned how to apply my skills to making clothing and smaller projects.
Once high school hit, sewing had dropped off my priorities list. I didn't touch my sewing machine again until my second semester of college.
A little backstory-my mom has been a professionally trained fine painter for the past 35 years. She has done hundreds of craft shows, and is known locally as one of the best painters around southeast Wisconsin. She is a very successful small business owner, as well as a shop owner here on Etsy. Throughout my childhood, I helped her tie ribbons on her Christmas ornaments, and write out price tags. I was with her at every craft show, even as a teen when I didn't have to be, and I've learned so much from her about hard work, dedication, passion, creativity, perseverance, and much more. My mom inspired me to start my own shop on Etsy.
During my second semester of college one day while scrolling on Pinterest, numerous pins for baby nurseries and clothes had come up on my feed. Some of them were DIY's and sewing patterns. That's when the lightbulb went on. I started my shop in 2019 with baby hats, and over 2019 added burp cloths, headbands, blankets, leggings, baby washcloths, and my unique take on bibs-Magnetic Snap bandana bibs. In March 2020, I responded to the national call for sewers to start making fabric face masks. Doing this catapulted my shop in a way that I never could have imagined, not only bringing shoppers to my shop for masks, but also for my original baby items.
I have a home studio where I make all of my items, completely made from scratch. My fabrics are from some large stores, as well as from some printing shops on Etsy, which brings a great variety of fabrics to my designs.
Every item I sew brings me so much excitement, and I hope they do for you as well.
