Where tradition lives on
Baba Anka grew up in a small Balkan village, where food was never just food.
It was how days were organized, how families gathered, and how care was shown without many words.
She learned to cook early, watching the women in her family prepare meals from what they had - seasonal vegetables, simple staples, and a lot of patience. Recipes weren’t written down. They were remembered, adjusted, and passed on by doing.
Living in Slovenia for most of her life, Baba Anka cooked the same way she always had: slowly, generously, and with attention to detail. Her kitchen was a place where pots stayed on the stove a little longer, cakes cooled on the counter, and no one ever left hungry.
As her grandchildren grew up, so did her cooking. She began trying new flavours and dishes she would jokingly call “a bit fancy”, such as creamy pastas, baked casseroles, layered cakes - always adapted her way, always made to please the people she loved.
These recipes come from that kitchen. Some are traditional Balkan dishes, others are family favourites shaped by time, curiosity, and love. They are not about perfection or trends, but about food that feels familiar and comforting, no matter how simple or modern it may be.
Baba Anka’s Kitchen exists to preserve those recipes and pass them on from one generation to the next.
