Howdy!

Bag in the Day started with a very simple concept - create reusable tote bags from up-cycled and vintage fabrics. This was over 5 years ago before this concept became trendy.

What do I mean from up-cycled fabrics? This is fabric that may have spent a previous life as a bed sheet, a curtain, a pillowcase or sham, or a tablecloth. Sometimes these fabric pieces are not useful anymore, maybe the matching pieces have gone missing. Maybe there is a hole somewhere. Or a stain. You get the picture. This is still wonderful fabric and just needs to find a new life.

Therefore, I convert these fabric odds and ends into eco-friendly tote bags that you can use and re-use. Bags that can be thrown in the washer. When I shop, I use the bags provided by the local stores and frankly, they are not at all stylish or attractive. :) And this is so good for the environment all around!

Each tote bag is one-of-a-kind. I normally do not duplicate fabric in a particular pattern. I add embroidery as my whim leads me. I will also monogram on request.

I try very hard to be a zero waste shop. The "Scrappy Bunting" consists of the remnants that are too small for bags or other projects. I will indicate if the fabric is up-cycled or not. I try very hard to use as much fabric as possible - trimmings go into stuffing pillows and the like.

I bought a couple cat beds for my cat to sleep in, but she did not like the silky or furry fabric. It was too slippery for her claws and feet, so she didn't use them. I bought these blankets to throw over her beds, and it was the trick! She loves then and will now sleep in her nest.

Creativity through upcycling

I started making items from upcycled and repurposed fabric several years ago. I started with tote bags (hence, the name Bag In the Day) but have since moved to table runners and mini quilts - using repurposed and upcycled materials where ever possible. I do incorporate some new materials if I need to make a match or contrast but most of my materials are either obtained from thrift stores or from worn out items. The resulting products I sell in this shop are hand crafted - please do not expect perfection - fabrics might be faded or have irregularities. But know that all items in my shop (except the patterns listed) are made with love with an eye on sustainability and reuse.
