Making something beautiful for you
Hace cuatro años, me casé con el amor de mi vida, Jackie. Nos casamos en Joplin, Missouri el 21 de mayo de 2011 y tuvimos la boda más increíble que se puede pedir. Después de la boda, sin embargo, no fue más que una batalla cuesta arriba para los dos.
Al día siguiente, el 22 de mayo de 2011, el infame tornado de Joplin arrasó la ciudad y destruyó no solo la iglesia en la que nos casamos, sino también la mitad de la ciudad. Afortunadamente, nadie que conociéramos resultó herido, pero muchas personas que conocíamos habían perdido sus hogares. Pospusimos nuestra luna de miel para ayudar a nuestros amigos a sacar sus preciosos artículos de los escombros. Una forma de comenzar un matrimonio. Ese fue solo el comienzo de nuestras dificultades.
Después de graduarnos con una licenciatura en Producción Cinematográfica, Jackie y yo nos mudamos a St. Louis, Missouri para estar con mi familia y buscar trabajo. Soy editora de video y Jackie es enfermera. St. Louis es una ciudad próspera con muchos medios y hospitales diferentes, por lo que encontrar un trabajo no debería ser difícil, ¿verdad? Nada más lejos de la realidad. Tomé trabajos pequeños y estaba mal pagado y sobrecargado de trabajo. Jackie trabajaba largas horas por poco salario. Vivíamos con mis padres porque no podíamos permitirnos nada más.
A pesar de lo horrible de nuestra vida laboral, Dios nos regaló nuestro primer hijo: un niño, Chase. No podría ser un niño mejor. Duerme toda la noche, come su comida y le encanta jugar. Todos siempre preguntan: "¿Es siempre tan bueno?" Dios definitivamente nos bendijo con él. Es una alegría estar cerca.
Poco después de su nacimiento, nuestras oraciones por un mejor trabajo fueron respondidas. Recibí una llamada de una compañía de producción de video cristiano cerca de casa a la que había enviado mi currículum meses antes. Estaban buscando un editor de video asistente. Inmediatamente acepté el trabajo.
Hoy Jackie, Chase y yo vivimos en un nuevo hogar y tuvimos un segundo bebé: ¡Caden! A pesar de trabajar en mi trabajo, ser esposo y engendrar dos hijos, todavía me gusta encontrar tiempo para crear. Ya sea escribiendo mi novela, editando videos o jugando con LEGO, me encanta no tomar nada y crear algo hermoso. Eso es lo que Jackie y yo hemos hecho. Comenzamos nuestro matrimonio cavando entre los escombros, pero hicimos algo hermoso con ellos.

Four years ago, I married the love of my life, Jackie. We were married in Joplin, Missouri on May 21, 2011 and had the most amazing wedding you could ask for. After the wedding, however, it was nothing but an uphill battle for the two of us.
The very next day, May 22, 2011, the infamous Joplin tornado ripped through the city and destroyed not only the church we were married in but also half the town. Thankfully, no one we knew was hurt but many people we knew had lost their homes. We postponed our honeymoon to help our friends dig their precious items out of the rubble. Heck of a way to start a marriage. That was only the beginning of our hardships.
Having graduated with a Bachelors Degree in Film Production, Jackie and I moved to St. Louis, Missouri to be with my family and look for job. I'm a video editor and Jackie is a nurse. St. Louis is a thriving city with lots of different media and hospitals so finding a job shouldn't be hard, right? Nothing could be further from the truth. I took small jobs and was underpaid and overworked. Jackie worked long hours for little pay. We lived with my parents because we couldn't afford anything else.
Despite the awfulness of our work life, God gifted us with our first child - a boy, Chase. He couldn't be a better kid. He sleeps through the night, eats his food, and loves to play. Everyone always asks, "Is he always this good?" God definitely blessed us with him. He's such a joy to be around.
Shortly after he was born, our prayers for a better job were answered. I got a call from a Christian video production company close to home that I'd sent my resume to months before. They were looking for an Assistant Video Editor. I immediately took the job.
Today Jackie, Chase, and I are living in a new home and had a second baby boy - Caden! Despite working my job, being a husband, and fathering two boys, I still like to find time to create. Whether it's writing my novel, editing video, or playing with LEGO, I love taking nothing and creating something beautiful. That's what Jackie and I have done. We started our marriage by digging through rubble but we made something beautiful out of it.
