Rolf Werndle is the driving force behind Duke & Dutch. He makes all kinds of jewellery, but gets the most joy from making playful pieces. “I love filing and cutting out new shapes. It is inspirational watching the pieces slowly take the shape you sketched only a few hours ago.”
Rolf is the fourth generation of South African jewellers from of a lineage of jewellers & watchmakers stretching back to the middle-ages. With this background, Rolf was playing in a jewellery workshop from a young age, making his first bird ‘pendants’ at the age of six. .
Rolf has combined his years working in the formal jewellery trade with his artistic training as a goldsmith to create a fun brand that is easy to wear. Duke & Dutch jewellery is made entirely in South Africa from solid silver, gemstones, wood and all that good stuff that will last. A playful combination of arty pieces often inspired by South African flora & fauna, including owls, little birds, and arum lilies. Many pieces have enamel to add a splash of colour.

Silver Jewellery for the individual

I grew up in a jewellery environment, working & playing in my family's jewellery store from the age of 6.
I studied as a goldsmith and jewellery designer over 10 years ago and have worked in a range of jewellery stores since then. I started my own brand almost 6 years ago. I decided to go on my own so I could be in complete control of my own direction.
Jewellery is an ancient art-form and I still make my jewellery by hand using century old techniques in combination with some of the latest technology and techniques.
