Put a Bug On It
El verano después de mi primer año de universidad, caminando por los bosques de Carolina del Norte, encontré una polilla Luna perfectamente prístina pero muerta en el sendero. Lo guardé y lo usé en mi primera clase de grabado. Me enganché inmediatamente a los insectos como tema.
Me gustó que a menudo son ignorados o menospreciados, pero cuando se examinan de cerca son únicos y hermosos.
Comencé a recolectar insectos y a revisar los libros de entomología de la biblioteca. Amigos y vecinos me traían rutinariamente extraños bichos que encontraban por la casa. Disfruté tanto aprendiendo sobre insectos que volví a la Universidad para obtener títulos en Biología y Antropología. Mi investigación se centró en las interacciones entre insectos y humanos. Esto finalmente me llevó a un doctorado en gobernanza y sostenibilidad. Ahora investigo la política ambiental y cómo las personas toman decisiones sobre los recursos naturales.
Como grabador he explorado muchos medios diferentes. Ocasionalmente puedo publicar un artículo vintage hecho por mí en mis días de juventud (un grabado o litografía), pero en mi estudio casero hago principalmente bloques de madera y linóleo.

The summer after my first year of college, hiking in the woods of North Carolina, I found a perfectly pristine but dead Luna Moth on the trail. I kept it and used it in my first printmaking class. I was hooked immediately on insects as a subject matter.
I liked that they are often ignored or disparaged, but when examined closely are unique and beautiful.
I began collecting insects and checking entomology books out of the library. Friends and neighbors would routinely bring me strange bugs they found around the house. I enjoyed learning about insects so much that I went back to University for degrees in Biology and Anthropology. My research focused on the interactions between insects and humans. This eventually led me to a PhD in governance and sustainability. Now I research environmental policy and how people make decisions about natural resources.
As a printmaker I've explored many different media. Occasionally I may post a vintage item made by me in my younger days (an etching or lithograph), but in my home studio I make primarily wood and linoleum blocks.
