Welcome to Fine Crafts of Kentucky. We build beautiful, functional, hand crafted things for your home. We are traditional wood workers working in a small shop in Boone County Kentucky. Our products range from Maloof style rockers, custom tables, federal and shaker tables, knife blocks and cutting boards to unusual wine racks and small boxes.

My own 1st cane is a beautiful “safety piece” that works well when walking in need of support and balance. It’s such a well-crafted cane, with a variety of colors and wood, and arrived on time in perfect condition. It’s exactly like the description of a work of art I had hoped to find!

Building beautiful, durable, functional things for your home...right here in Boone County, KY

Fine Crafts of Kentucky kind of slipped up on us. It started out as Byron's hobby. Household items for the family grew into gifts for friends. Then came sporting goods (gun stocks and small boats). The house was filling up.

John had always been a "hands on" kind of guy. He graduated from college with a double major in social sciences during a brutal recession.....not the best match. We decided that if you can't find a job.....make one. So.....we began making small things and selling them at craft fairs. We then began approaching galleries. Now we are beginning to make furniture.

So far our work has been pretty well received. We are still trying new things and market testing them.

We are finding our way a step at a time. We also get to work together doing something that we enjoy.

Byron grew up in western Kentucky. He began carving in Boy Scouts. After college he eased into woodworking and has been seriously working at it for about 15 years. He starts with classic designs and then looks to the wood itself for inspiration.
John Marks

Twórca, Projektant

John was born in Michigan but has lived his entire life in Kentucky. He began as sort of an apprentice but is now our design guru. He has a great eye for color and composition. More and more he drives the quality in the shop.
