The lamp was not shipped damaged and unfortunately happened in shipping. I did package it so it would not be damaged and I am disappointed that it arrived that way. As for the scratches on the shade, as with the lamp itself these are made from used and upcycled items and are not sold or created from new out of the box items. The only items that are new are the electrical components. I responded to the buyer as soon as she contacted me. I explained to her in order to get the shade on you need to unscrew the nut (I sent an attached photo) on the socket, place the shade on the socket and then tighten the nut. I never heard back from the buyer to make sure I could make things right. I stand behind my work and It is unfortunate that I wasn't given a chance to make it right prior to receiving this negative review.
