How Look Look began
Siempre me ha encantado crear.
Cuando era niño, todos mis libros escolares estaban llenos de pequeños bocetos y dibujos. Cuando llegó el momento de elegir una educación terciaria, mi madre me animó a ir a la escuela de arte. Estudié bellas artes y diseño gráfico durante tres años en una pequeña universidad en mi ciudad natal. Sobresalí en ambas áreas y descubrí el amor por la ilustración. Cuando aprendí a tomar mis bocetos y garabatos del papel y convertirlos en vectores y arte digital, me enganché.
Dejé la universidad y trabajé como diseñador interno para una gran compañía internacional de licores durante cinco años. Me di cuenta de que un trabajo de oficina corporativa no era algo para lo que fuera adecuado, ya que no había una salida real para mi creatividad. También tenía una profunda necesidad de explorar y viajar por el mundo.
Renuncié a mi trabajo, vendí todo lo que tenía y me dirigí a África y luego a Asia. Fue una experiencia muy inspiradora y cuando regresé a Ciudad del Cabo (casi dos años después) estaba pintando, dibujando y diseñando todo tipo de cosas. Conocí a muchos creativos maravillosos durante mis viajes que tenían muchos consejos y me animaron a trabajar para mí mismo.
Me inspira casi todo, desde el mundo natural hasta las tendencias de moda y diseño. Me encanta todo tipo de arte e incluso he probado suerte en el arte urbano. No puedo tener suficiente de lo que hago y la mayoría de las veces puedes encontrarme con una taza de té y un cuaderno de bocetos o armando arte digital y diseños en mi computadora.
I have always loved to create.
When I was a child, all my school books were filled with little sketches and drawings. When it was time to pick a tertiary education my mother encouraged me to go to art school. I studied fine art and graphic design for three years at a small college in my home town. I excelled in both areas and discovered a love for illustration. When I learned how to take my sketches and doodles from paper and turn them into vectors and digital art, I was hooked.
I left college and worked as an in-house designer for a huge international liquor company for five years. I realized that a corporate office job was not something I was suited to as there was no real outlet for my creativity. I also had a deep need to explore and travel the world.
I resigned from my job, sold everything I owned and headed off into Africa and then Asia. It was such an inspiring experience and by the time I moved back to Cape Town (almost two years later) I was painting, drawing and designing all kinds of things. I met so many wonderful creatives during my travels who had lots of advice and encouraged me to work for myself.
I am inspired by almost everything, from the natural world to fashion and design trends. I love all kinds of art and I have even tried my hand at urban art. I can't get enough of what I do and more often than not you can find me with a cup of tea and a sketch book or putting together digital art and designs on my computer.
