At Mask & Crown, I create beautiful works of art inspired by nature and fantasy, lovingly crafted and designed. I believe in high-quality products that are worth the time, the money, and the heart and soul that I put into every piece I craft. I enjoy creating and wearing leather masks and flower crowns so much that I felt inspired to open this shop and share my passion. That way I could continue to make these works of art throughout the year, because there are only so many I can wear by myself! My masks and crowns can be worn at the renaissance faire, on Halloween, to parties, on Mardis Gras, and more. Flower crowns especially aren’t just for wearing on these occasions; try wearing one to the grocery store or the farmer’s market and see how many compliments you get (trust me, I’ve done it)!
Now, a little about the crafting process…
Masks are made from premium European veg-tanned leather for comfort, beautiful dye absorption, and long-lasting quality. Designs start from a drawing on paper before they are cut into the leather, after which patterns are hand-carved into the top and the edges are beveled for a clean look. The leather is (sometimes) dyed before being sculpted and baked into shape. After being allowed to dry overnight the masks are painted with Liquitex acrylic paint, finished with a top coat, and then strung with genuine leather cord and a metal clasp for a high-quality feel and appearance. The backs of the masks are left unpainted/undyed for the wearer’s comfort and to allow for easy adjustments to the wearer’s face.
Flower crowns (coming soon) are crafted with the highest-quality artificial flowers I can find that also keep the cost down. I take my time to create beautiful color combinations that speak to me, and then use floral wire to secure each individual flower onto a wire base. I secure everything (and hide those wires!) with floral tape, and then occasionally use glue to make sure the flowers stay in place. Crowns are then finished with beautiful, high-quality ribbon in a color that matches the overall color scheme.
