quality dressmaking fabric & haberdashery
More Sewing is a fabric shop and sewing school in sunny Worthing on the Sussex coast in England. We have been in business since 2012 We teach dressmaking everyday we are open and have a shop full of fabulous dressmaking fabric and haberdashery.
Our business is run by Laura (that's me) and Mark (aka Mr More Sewing) who looks after the online side of things, serves in the shop and services are repairs sewing machines and overlockers. I look after the teaching and buying in all the fabric - I got the best job! I worked in the fashion industry in London (Phase Eight, Principles, Designers at Debenhams and others) with over 15 years experience in buying, designing and garment technology. I was taught at the London College of Fashion and qualified in bespoke tailoring. What this all adds up to is that I love fabric, tailoring and dressmaking and I like to pride myself on finding and stocking only the best quality fabrics. I love helping people to make clothes that fit well and look great on. I have seen first hand the increased pride and confidence someone has when they have been complimented on a great looking, tailored garment that they made.
As I have already said, I buy the fabric that we sell in the shop and online. I have a number of contacts with fabric suppliers and they have got to know me and understand that I am only looking for the best quality, reasonably priced cotton, jersey, viscose and polyester dress fabrics. If I would not sew with a fabric, I will not stock it- simple as that . That philosophy extends to all we do from the haberdashery and sewing machines we use in the classes, to the dressmaking patterns we stock. Talking of dressmaking patterns, that is the next project we have, our own range of patterns - watch this space!
Outside of More Sewing, I am the mother of two wonderful boys (Sewing Major and More Minor) and I love nothing more that being with them, whether it is being out on the Sussex Downs or walking along the beach in the wonderful sunshine.
