Nature, Creatures & Places Wandered, Preserved in Watercolor
Painted Perch Studio is a traveling watercolor studio. I paint wildlife, landscapes, and the small wild moments most people walk past — every piece born from a real encounter in a real place.
It began in February 2021 with a stem of hollyhocks on a kitchen table and a paintbrush picked up for the very first time. The roots go much deeper. For years, I'd been outdoors with camera in hand: hiking trails, wandering national and state parks, driving quiet back roads across the United States and Canada — and farther afield to Ireland and Scotland, with more places still on the list. A long habit of noticing creatures and places most people hurry past. Watercolor finally gave that habit a way to stay.
Every piece begins with a photograph taken in the field — most by me, some by my friend Macy, an Oregon-based wildlife photographer whose work I paint from with her blessing. Wildlife observed in its wild home. Landscapes I've stood in and truly seen. Plants growing exactly where they chose to be. Each watercolor is a quiet return to a real moment, in a real place.
The studio is currently based in Victor, Idaho — for now. My husband and I live full-time in our RV, so the studio moves with us across the country. New trails, new light, new creatures that pause just long enough to be noticed.
The shop opened on Etsy in 2026, but the work has been in motion for five years. You'll find one-of-a-kind originals and fine art prints here, and I take a small number of custom commissions each season.
Some moments deserve to outlast the photograph. That's why this shop exists.
