Hi I’m Deb. Maker of all things practical. Creator of all things fun. Innovator of all things handmade. I have been sewing for over 40 years and am very passionate about my creations. Sewing has always been a natural outlet for the things I struggle to put words to. I believe that handmade goods are an essential part of the “new normal” for society.
Ironically enough, the first thing I ever sewed was a fabric purse in my high school home-ec class. I loved it so much that I decided to take an advanced sewing class, and when my Dad bought me my own sewing machine (which I still use to this day!), that’s when my hobby really took off.
I sewed myself a four-piece suit after that for job interviews (been practical for over 40 years as well). I later continued to grow my skills when I made costumes for the high school play, making 5 costumes in under a month! I continued making one-off projects, but my hobby took a hiatus while I was in college and, shortly after, raising my children.
I continued to sew, mainly things for my kids, but always wanted to spend more time behind the pedal. It wasn’t until I discovered Comic Con that I really brought out the shears and thread and channeled my abilities. My first cosplay was a Mad Hatter costume, mainly because I have always loved Alice in Wonderland. I felt that this costume really captured my personality and showcased my skills.
From there, year after year I continued to make my daughter and I’s costumes, sometimes beginning months in advance. Our Comic Con group grew and so did my tool belt. My friend and I began to push our costumes further and further, until one year we made SEVEN cosplays, mimicking the Game of Thrones characters in full force. I always get so excited about Comic Con, that I’ve started thinking of my costumes a FULL YEAR in advance.
My husband has always believed in my abilities and felt I could start my own business with my handmade goods. After some convincing, and desire to control my own destiny, I decided to start my shop! There is no doubt that our journey has been atypical. The pandemic has been tough to get things off the ground, causing our original marketing plan (local street fairs, craft events, etc.) to require a pivot. We went entirely online and business has been booming ever since. My primary focus is handmade, fashionable, and eco-friendly bags, although I’ve decided to spend time making affordable masks to keep everyone safe.
I love all of my products and am excited to start each day sewing. I am passionate about producing quality items and add extra love to each product. I hope you enjoyed my story and my products. I appreciate any feedback and continue to refine my product.
Stay safe! Stay creative! Stay handmade!
