I am compelled to make things and hope they find a good home.
I began sewing as a child, making clothes for my Barbie dolls from felt. Then my neighbor, a lonely older woman, taught me to crochet.
i think the desire to create from scraps and found objects was something that was actually passed along to me from my grandparents, who were raised during the Depression. Their thrift and ability to make whatever they needed from what they had on hand has always impressed me. The flour sack dresses, quilts made from work shirts, were born in necessity but became treasured family heirlooms.
My treasured inheritance from my grandmother is her sewing collection. I have a hat box filled with old, antique buttons that she carefully cut off before putting the clothing to another use, sewing patterns from decades ago and thread on wooden spools remind me of how precious store bought goods were for them.
Everything I make seems to be very feminine, with a tough edge. I love crafting the macabre from old fashioned methods.
Sometimes, I make aprons from day of the dead fabric, or I might crochet a zombie doll.
Right now, I've fallen in love with steampunk. The leather and lace, the velvet with studs, match them with old fashioned functionality and I want to make it.
I hope you enjoy them as much as I do.
