The mat is well made and weighty. The cork looks nice but I expected it to be grippy. This is not so much. The surface is super smooth and soft. I Immediately tried a down dog after I unrolled it and my feet were slipping while trying to hold the pose. Not ideal. I'm hoping it just needs to be broken in or something. I will happily update my review if that proves to be the case. EDIT: Upon investigation, I've found that yes, a cork mat will be somewhat slick at first but with proper treatment and use, the grippiness improves. It requires moisture and a good cleaning but is worth the effort. If you're new to cork mats (like me) proceed with knowledge. ReposeYoga sends a recipe for a non-toxic, DIY cleaning solution, which is nice. I'd recommend treating the mat before use.
