🧵 Our Story – From Weaver to Entrepreneur
Meet Dharmendra — the hands and heart behind Rug Handmade.
Our journey began not with a grand business plan, but with honest hard work, sleepless nights, and a dream to build something better for the next generation.
In 2005, Dharmendra started working in a large rug manufacturing company in India as a weaver. With his skilled hands and strong work ethic, he helped create thousands of rugs — each woven with care but credited to someone else’s brand. The earnings were just enough to support his family.
But as his children grew and their education expenses started rising, his fixed salary wasn’t enough anymore.
So, after completing a 12-hour shift at his day job, Dharmendra would return home and continue his craft at night — hand-tufting rugs for other rug merchants from his small home. For 5–6 hours every night, he worked silently, building not just rugs, but a future.
Customers started noticing the quality of his work — clean carving, strong finishing, and a texture only skilled hands can achieve. Soon, orders increased, and the merchants began depending on his craftsmanship.
That’s when Dharmendra made a bold decision:
He quit his job and turned his home into a small production unit. Step by step, he built a full-fledged rug workshop, trained local artisans, and started exporting rugs globally.
Today, through Etsy, he has taken the next step in his journey — bringing his handcrafted rugs directly to customers around the world, without middlemen.
Every rug at Rug Handmade is a piece of that story — a blend of tradition, hard work, and artistic passion. From his humble beginnings as a weaver to an artisan-entrepreneur, Dharmendra’s journey is woven into every fiber.
🧵 Rug Handmade isn’t just a rug shop — it’s a legacy made by hand.
