Hi, my name is Silvia and welcome to My Sewing Playground!
I have always been creative and constantly found inspiration around me, whether in nature, people or objects. My passion is working creatively with hands and encourage more people to leave the screens for a while and use the craft to slow down and unwind. I love creative process of making something unique and playing with different colours, textures, shapes. For many years I have been designing and making clothes for women, which were very feminine, timeless and practical. I have always loved creating pieces, which you would take out from your wardrobe year after year, and they would still make you feel exceptional and beautiful. Since having children, I have slowly redirected my passion into making clothes and accessories for babies and children and upcycle everything that needed around the home.
It has opened many new opportunities for me to remain creative and brought new joy to my work. Being a mum, I soon realised that children's clothes need to be practical, comfortable, durable, easy to put on and take off, and easy to wash.
Whether it is clothes, accessories or toys, I prefer using natural materials from a sustainable source, such as organic cotton, linen, wool or silk and preferably natural dyes. Fabrics and trims from natural fibres are breathable and pleasant to wear next to the skin. Two years ago my children received their first Maileg mice and bunnies and since then my designs turned even smaller in scale, some as small as to fit 7cm doll.
The Sewing Playground represents my creative space and journey, on the physical, mental and spiritual level, where I can play with ideas, shapes, textures and colours and get lost in the creative process. I wanted to share this process and final outcomes to bring joy and inspire others to use their sewing machine or by hand craft something which brings joy into your heart. I love making something unique and special for someone who appreciates time and love which goes into creating handcrafted gifts. All the fabrics and trims for each piece I make, are carefully selected and I decide on a finish and embellishment. All my designs are one-off pieces; I order only small quantities of material or use remnants of the fabrics from other projects to create zero waste whenever possible. I hope my designs and garments bring joy to your children and your family.
