From Blank Slate to Bold Lines: A Creative Journey in Color by Number
Quando ho aperto questo negozio nel 2017, non sapevo davvero cosa stessi facendo, sapevo solo che dovevo creare. Mi ero appena trasferito, la mia vita era in fase di cambiamento e, sebbene sentissi il bisogno di creare qualcosa, i tempi non erano maturi. Il negozio era rimasto praticamente intatto, una tabula rasa digitale in attesa del suo scopo.
Facciamo un salto in avanti fino a febbraio 2025. Qualcosa è cambiato. Dopo anni di lavoro come designer di interfacce digitali, perfezionando linee pulite, pixel precisi e griglie compatte, ho iniziato a desiderare qualcosa di più libero, più espressivo. Sono tornato in questo studio non con un business plan, ma con una domanda: e se la creatività non avesse bisogno di una ragione?
Fu allora che scoprii Color by Number. All'inizio era solo una curiosità, ma ne intuii subito il potenziale: stili infiniti, temi infiniti, modi infiniti di interagire con l'arte. Più creavo, più mi rendevo conto che questo formato poteva essere accessibile e profondo. È facile iniziare, ma non è necessario rimanere nei limiti.
Il mio ufficio in casa è dove tutto accade ora. È un piccolo spazio malinconico ricavato da una stanza vuota e dimenticata, pieno di giocattoli vintage, libri usati e strani piccoli oggetti che sembrano custodire storie. Di giorno lavoro qui come designer, ma sono le lunghe notti a nutrire l'anima. È allora che i temi prendono vita, che le idee prendono forma, che tutto si calma abbastanza da poter ascoltare.
Ciò che spero di più è che le persone non usino i miei progetti così come sono. Voglio che li vedano come inviti. Colorare con i numeri può essere rilassante, divertente, persino educativo, ma può essere anche di più. Gli utenti digitali, in particolare, possono sovrapporre, ridisegnare e aggiungere sfumature oltre le tavolozze predefinite. Adoro immaginare qualcuno che usi i miei progetti come base, per poi spingerli verso qualcosa di unico e personale.
Accolgo sempre volentieri idee e richieste. Se c'è un tema o un concept che ti piacerebbe vedere, scrivimi: sarò felice di creare qualcosa di personalizzato o di esplorare nuove direzioni. Alcuni dei miei progetti preferiti sono nati da suggerimenti inaspettati.

When I first opened this shop back in 2017, I didn’t really know what I was doing—just that I needed to create. I’d recently moved, life was in transition, and although I felt the pull to make something, the timing wasn’t right. The shop sat mostly untouched, a digital blank slate waiting for its purpose.
Fast forward to February 2025. Something shifted. After years working as a digital interface designer—perfecting clean lines, precise pixels, and tight grids—I started craving something looser, more expressive. I returned to this shop not with a business plan, but with a question: What if creativity didn’t need a reason?
That’s when I discovered Color by Number. At first, it was just a curiosity, but I quickly saw the potential—endless styles, endless themes, endless ways for people to engage with art. The more I created, the more I realized this format could be both approachable and deep. It’s easy to start, but you don’t have to stay inside the lines.
My home office is where it all happens now. It’s a moody little space carved from a blank, forgettable room—filled with vintage toys, worn books, and odd little objects that seem to hold stories. I work here by day as a designer, but it’s the long nights that feed the soul. That’s when themes come to life, when ideas take shape, when everything quiets down enough to listen.
What I hope most is that people don’t just use my designs as-is. I want them to see them as invitations. Color by Number can be relaxing, fun, even educational—but it can also be more. Digital users especially can layer, redraw, and add nuance beyond the preset palettes. I love imagining someone using my designs as a foundation, then pushing them into something uniquely their own.
