Spark & Shadow - curated, crafted, reimagined and revived.
I’ve always loved vintage jewellery, since rummaging in my grandma’s bead and button tin as an 8 year old. I was intrigued by the colours, textures and how each item has a history, and 25 years later, still fascinated, I created Spark & Shadow as a way of recycling and reviving some of these pieces to create something completely unique!
Crafting is my escape from anxiety and stresses, and it’s so lovely to be able to focus in on one task, and concentrate on creating a piece of wearable art.
Spark & Shadow was named to represent both the old and new coming together in my work. The ‘spark’ denotes the new- the new materials, the new ideas, and the the glint or sparkle of the jewellery. The ‘shadow’ represents the recycling of older materials, and giving them a second life.
I handcraft jewellery using vintage pieces - lonely earrings, old brooches, repurposed chains- and antique beads - cloisonné from the 1930s, Czech glass from the 40s, and aurora crystal from the 50’s- alongside new gemstones, glass and gold-plated chains and findings, to create entirely unique and bespoke pieces, each with a little bit of history, but revived for a modern, conscious audience.
